Why XTC damages neurons

Scientists have proposed two different theories to explain the brain damage:

  1. Harmful substances

Ecstasy is broken down in the body. Part of that process occurs in the brain. Some of the by-products of this breakdown process may be damaging to the axons, thus disabling the neurons.
